Agnieszka Radwańska, Angelique Kerber, Alizee Cornet and Danka Kovinić. What do they have in common? They all played on the courts in Toruń.

Poland’s leading racket, Agnieszka Radwańska, took a part in 2005 Bella Cup as a wild card. Her adventure on the courts in Toruń ended quite early. Already in the first match, she was defeated by Darina Sedenkova, who went all the way to the semi-final.

Same year in Toruń we got see Alizé Cornet, later winner in many WTA tournaments, eg. in Rome and Acapulco. French tennis player, called ‘the star of Nice’, reach Bella Cup quarterfinals. She was then conquered by Joanna Sakowicz. Polish player won after a long match 3:6 6:2 6:3.

Angelique Kerber spent a week on courts in Toruń just a year earlier. The winner of Australian Open 2016, teamed with Marta Leśniak, went all the way to the doubles’ finale. They were defeated by the Czech-Hungarian duo – Gabriela Navratilova and Kyra Nagy.

One of the top 50 WTA ranking players is the former Bella Cup champion, Danka Kovinić from Montenegro. In 2012 she defeated Paula Kania 6:3 4:6 6:3 in the finale. Polish player came back fighting a year later, where she has won with Kovinić in the quarter-final and earned the cup after a grueling finale against Katarzyna Piter. It was the biggest success for Poland in the history of Bella Cup Tournament.

Who will create history this year? Which Bella Cup contestants will win their way to the courts around the world? Time will show. What we know for sure, is that we should keep an eye on our contestants, because it is a place where stars are born.
