On the fifth day of the International Women’s Tennis Tournament Bella Cup 2017, we had to say goodbye to Maja Chwalińska and Magdalena Fręch. They have both lost their quarterfinals. Doubles tournament favourites triumped in the finale.
At 9 am, all quarterfinal games started on four different courts, They were moved to Saturday due to heavy rain yesterday.
Tournament’s wild card, Maja Chwalińska, played against Chantal Skamlova from Slovakia for the place in the semi-finals. For Chwalińska, it was a game of lost chances. In the first set, she lost two break points and managed to win only one game in the second set. Chwalińska has lost 4:6, 1:6 and left the tournament.
At the same time, fighting for a space on the semi-final, Magdalena Fręch [4] has begun the match against Australian Priscilla Hon very strong, winning the first set 6:4. With the exact same result, Hon defeated her in the second set. In the deciding, extremely emotional set, after defending two Hon’s match games, Fręch ultimately lost the match 6:4, 4:6, 4:6.
Vera Lapko from Belarus, tournament’s [3], did not qualify to the semi-final either. Last year’s Australian Open Junior tournament winner surprisingly lost 5:7, 5:7 with Czech Republic representative – Miriam Kolodziejova. Forth player qualified to the semi-final is Lenka Jurikova from Slovakia. After defeating tournament’s [1] Sofia Shapatova earlier in the competition, this time she has won 6:2, 6:3 with Sara Sekulic from Germany.
In the singles final game, we will see Miriam Kolodziejova and Chantal Skamlova. Czech Republic representative surprisingly easily defeated Lenka Jurikowa 6:3, 6:1 and the Slovakian player, Skamlova, has won a very demanding match against Australian Priscilla Hon 4:6, 6;1, 6:3.
Saturday’s last match on the main court was the third tournament’s performance of Miriam Kolodziejova. Paired up with Jesica Maleckova, in the doubles finale they faced the highest seeded team – Vera Lapko from Belarus and Anna Morgina from Russia. Favourites did not let us down and despite the heavy rain, they finished winning with the Chech team 6:2, 6:3.
Singles finale of the 23rd International Women’s Tennis Tournament Bella Cup 2017 will begin at 10:00 on Sudany.
